L. N. TALLUR

(b. 1971) Born in 1971, in Koteswara, Karnataka, L. N. Tallur received his Bachelor’s degree in painting from the Chamarajendra Academy of Visual Arts (CAVA) at Mysore University in 1996. He then pursued a Master’s degree in museology from the Maharaja Sayyajirao University of Baroda in 1998. In 1999, he was awarded a scholarship from the Leeds Metropolitan University to complete another Master’s degree in Contemporary Fine Art Practice. Solo shows of his work include ‘New Yorked’ at Jack Shainman Gallery, New York, in 2013; ‘Montessori: Lessons in Economics’ at Nature Morte, Berlin, 2012; ‘Quintessential’ at the Bhau Daji Lad Mumbai City Museum, Mumbai in 2011; ‘Chromatophobia The fear of Money’ at Arario Gallery, Beijing and Seoul, and Nature Morte, New Delhi, in 2010-11; ‘Placebo’ at Chemould Prescott Road, Mumbai, in 2009; ‘Antimatter’ at Arario Gallery, New York, in 2008; and ‘Bon Apetit’ at Arario Gallery, Seoul, in 2007. Tallur has been honoured with several prestigious awards including the Skoda Prize for Indian Contemporary Art in 2012; the Sanskriti Award from the Sanskriti Foundation, New Delhi, in 2003; and the Emerging Artist Award from Bose Pacia Gallery, New York, in 1999. The artist lives between India and South Korea.
