(b. 1945) Nilima Sheikh was born in 1945 in New Delhi. Between 1962 and 65, she studied history at Delhi University, and then painting of the Faculty of Fine Arts at M.S. University, Baroda, graduating with a Master’s degree in 1971. Her recent solo exhibitors include ‘Each Night Put Kashmir in Your Dreams’ at Chemould Prescott Road, Mumbai and the Lalit Kala Academy , New Delhi, in 2010; ‘Drawing Trails’ and ‘Painted Drawings’ at Gallery Espace, New Delhi, in 2009 and 1999 respectively; ‘The Country Without A Post Office: Reading Agha Shahid Ali’ at Gallery Chemould, Mumbai, in 2003; and ‘Images from Umrao’ at Nature Morte, New Delhi, in 1999. Her works have been featured in several group exhibitions in India and abroad, and in 2001, in a joint show with Shahzia Sikander at the Asia Society, New York, titled ‘Conversations with Traditions’. Sheikh has also taught painting at the Faculty of Fine Arts at M.S. University, Baroda, between 1971 and 1981.
